No Sun

Today's prompt from Memphis Writers was "It's 10:00 a.m. and the sun still hasn't risen."

No Sun

It's 10:00 a.m. and the sun still hasn't risen.
I check my phone.
I check my computer,
I check the clock behind me on the wall,
I mumble an excuse,
Check the clock in the breakroom.
go out to my car, get my charger,
come back inside,
10:02
Feels like time to go home.
a.m.
Morning,
No sun.
Just a dark grey sky
which looks like it is full of clouds
holding in the rain,
For now.
Hard to tell if it is a several small clouds
or a few big ones.
So gray.
So dark.
If I wasn’t at work, I’d go back to bed.
Pretending to sleep would be more fun
than dealing with customers and co-workers
whose moods reflect the sky,
Dark, uncertain, potentially stormy.
I impatiently wait
like everyone else
for the storm to blow through.
Wondering,
How big,
How long,
How much damage,
How long to fix everything,
And whether we will ever be sunny again.
